Agony of Silence

She was watching him from the corner of the window, he was sleeping calmly. A beautiful serene smile was floating on his face. He was always so bright and breezy, all the worries of the world seemed insignificant when she saw him like this. It was December, cool breeze was flowing around, fighthing with the hot sun rays so as to make the surrounding chill. People had started their routine work, group of ladies were carrying bucket full of water from the near by well, men were going to the farm. He woke up with the tintinnabulation that voluminously swells from the ringing and dinging of bells in the temple. A sudden puff of air through window rustled the curtains along with the piece of paper that was near the window and then that gentle breeze ended on his cheeks. He then opened his eyes, just to find her near him, but she was not there. He wished, if he could hold the time when few seconds back he saw her calm face looking at him with love and care, he felt the tears on his shoulder when she had hugged him. He then felt a life time gap between the time that had passsed few seconds back and now, as she was not around him.

She sensed his anxiety, but was helpless to do anything, she was near to him, but still was far from him. She then moved away bidding a silent good bye to him with heavy heart. She missed the days when she had lived here, and could see him daily. It was a narrow celadon-colored street with little huts on both the sides of the road, looked like it was giving a support to the lane in between by keeping equal masses on both the sides. She then saw the chandler at the end of street with lots of candles. She was walking down the village, collecting the memories. She came far from the village. Birds were chirping, like a instrumental was being played in the distant. There were kine, standing together on an eminence, whose smell warmed her heart. She was still walking, covered many miles, from streets of village, then farms, then forest, and yet not knowing where she was heading, as she was walking without aim. Memories of past continuously hitting her, but she had absorbed all of it into her, as she could not go back and change anything. Her face looked neutral yet radiant, when sun rays was flickering on the planes of her face. She was looking straight towards the horizon, with an unmoving glance, a glance that had many thing to say, still it did not say anything. She was now near her destination, there was a river in front of her, water looked even and calm with no ripples, waiting to take her inside.

Half of his mind and body still had the post sensation of the dream he had. With half open eyes, he saw the piece of paper lying on the ground near his bed. He opened it and read it -

Dear Aditya,
I would like you to read this letter every year on this day, there will be days in your life when I will not be there with you, I will not hold you in my arms, I will not care for you like others do, but I will always be around you. You know about the bird "Phoenix - the fire bird", it burns fiercely and then reduced to aishes, from which a new, young phoenix arises, reborn anew to live again in the world. I want you to understand it, no matter what life brings you, I will always like to see you happy and smiling. There will be moments in your life when you feel low and people may not help you, don't let yourself go with the time, learn to get up whenever you get down and walk happily. I will not tell you how to do things in life, I want you to learn them when they come across.
I know you are crying, but if you do this, you will hurt me. I am proud to have you my dear son. I am not going to wish you happiness and success, I want you to get it by your own. Wishing you a very happy birthday.

With much love,
Your Mom

Tears were trickling down his face, he then wiped it off and looked at his mom's picture hanging on the wall in front of his bed, and said " Love you mom" A waft of chilled air from streets, rolled between trees and settled over her face. She was standing near the bank of the river, a light serene smile appeared on her face and then she said love you too Aadi; good bye. She then started walking on the surface of water as smoothly as she was walking on the ground, she then disappeared into the water.
